  • 3/4 cup milk (whole or buttermilk)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tbsp oil (for skillet)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (for brushing)
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Chill a large mixing bowl and box grater in the freezer for 15–30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 425°F and place a cast iron skillet inside to heat.
  3. In the chilled bowl, whisk together self-rising flour, garlic powder, and Old Bay seasoning.
  4. Grate the frozen butter into the flour mixture and stir until combined; fold in cheddar cheese.
  5. Carefully add milk, mixing just until combined—do not overmix.
