Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm milk (105-110°F)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 ½ – 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over and let it sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix the yeast mixture with butter, egg, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
  3. Gradually add flour until a soft ball of dough forms. Knead for an additional 2-3 minutes until tacky but not sticky.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (45-60 minutes).
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle (12×8 inches). Cut into 24-30 pieces.
  6. Transfer to baking sheets and let rise again (45-60 minutes) while preheating the oven to 350°F.
  7. Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking.
