  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more as needed
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more as needed
  • Mashed potatoes or cooked egg noodles (for serving)
  • Finely chopped fresh parsley leaves (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Sauté diced onion in olive oil until translucent; add minced garlic.
  2. In a large bowl, mix sautéed onions, garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, spices, beef, and pork until just combined.
  3. Shape mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place on a plate.
  4. Brown meatballs in a skillet over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes; remove from skillet.
  5. In the same skillet, make the gravy by melting butter and whisking in flour; gradually add broth and stir in mustard and cream.
